ACCA Pass Rates 2026: Which Papers Are Hardest and Why

ACCA Pass Rates 2026: Which Papers Are Hardest and Why

ACCA is one of the few professional bodies that publishes its pass rates openly after every sitting — and the June 2026 numbers, released in July, tell a very clear story about where students win and where they bleed marks. Over 119,600 students entered the June sitting, completing 136,544 exams, and 4,690 students finished their final papers to become ACCA affiliates.

Here are the official June 2026 pass rates, paper by paper, followed by what they actually mean for your study plan.

(Source: ACCA Global, June 2026 results announcement. Every paper has a fixed 50% pass mark — ACCA does not curve or scale, so a low pass rate reflects how demanding the paper is for that cohort.)

The Hardest Papers — and Why Students Fail Them

1. Advanced Audit and Assurance (AAA) — 39%

Consistently the toughest paper in the qualification. AAA punishes rote learning ruthlessly: it demands applied professional judgement on messy case scenarios — identifying audit risks specific to the scenario, not reciting generic textbook risks. Students fail because they write everything they know instead of answering what was asked.

2. Performance Management (PM) — 41%

The shock of the Applied Skills level: nearly 6 out of 10 candidates failed in June 2026. PM looks numerical but is really an interpretation paper — variances, transfer pricing and performance measures must be explained in business terms. Students who only practise calculations walk into a paper that asks “so what?” and have no answer.

3. Advanced Performance Management (APM) — 42%

PM’s problem, amplified. APM is almost entirely evaluation and advice; calculation marks are scarce. It rewards candidates who read examiner reports and practise writing under time pressure — precisely what most self-study candidates skip.

The 47% cluster: AA, SBR, AFM, ATX

Four very different papers, one shared lesson: at 47%, more candidates fail than pass. AA fails students who memorise audit procedures without applying them to the scenario. SBR demands genuine IFRS understanding, not standard-quoting. AFM and ATX punish shallow coverage of a wide syllabus.

What the Numbers Should Change in Your Preparation

  • Respect the cliff between levels. Pass rates fall from 65–89% at Knowledge level to 41–55% at Skills. The jump is in question style — from testing what you know to testing what you can do with it.
  • Budget extra time for PM, AA and your Professional options. These are not “one month” papers for most students.
  • Practise writing, not just reading. Every low-pass-rate paper is a written-application paper. Reading solutions feels like studying; producing answers under exam timing is studying.
  • Sit evaluated mocks. The gap between a 45 and a 52 is almost always technique and time management — invisible until a qualified marker evaluates your script against the real marking scheme. That is exactly what our Rs.4,999 evaluated mock test series (3 mocks, 48-hour feedback, live tutor sessions) exists to expose while there is still time to fix it.

A 41% pass rate is not a reason to fear a paper. It is a reason to prepare for it differently from the way the failing 59% did.
