ACCA Internship Interview Questions and Preparation Tips

ACCA Internship Interview Questions and Preparation Tips

ACCA internship interviews usually have three parts: a technical round (accounting, IFRS basics, audit), an HR round (“why ACCA, why this firm”), and a behavioural round. You don’t need to be a topic expert — you need clear fundamentals, two strong examples, and real knowledge of the firm’s service lines.

Here are the questions that come up most, with how to approach them.

Technical questions to expect

  • Walk me through the three financial statements and how they link.
  • What is the difference between accrual and cash accounting?
  • Explain a basic IFRS concept (e.g. revenue recognition or depreciation).
  • What’s the purpose of an audit, and what is materiality?
  • How would you treat a simple journal entry / adjust a trial balance?

HR and motivation questions

  • Why did you choose ACCA over CA or CMA?
  • Why this firm, and which service line interests you?
  • Where do you see yourself in five years?
  • What do you know about our recent work or clients?

Behavioural questions

Expect “tell me about a time you…” questions on teamwork, handling pressure and fixing a mistake. Use the STAR method (Situation, Task, Action, Result) and keep each answer under 90 seconds. Two well-rehearsed examples can cover most of these.

A simple 7-day prep plan

  • Days 1–2: revise the three statements, accrual vs cash, basic IFRS and audit terms.
  • Days 3–4: research the firm — service lines, recent news, the role; prepare your “why ACCA / why us” answers.
  • Day 5: write two STAR stories and rehearse them aloud.
  • Days 6–7: do a mock interview, refine timing, and prepare two questions to ask them.

The mistakes that cost offers

Vague “ACCA is global” answers, no knowledge of the firm, rambling behavioural stories, and not asking any questions at the end. Specificity wins — know the service line, name something concrete about the firm, and keep answers tight.

Megha’s Take

Internship interviewers aren’t testing whether you’ve memorised every standard — they’re testing whether you can think clearly and whether you actually want to be there. A candidate who explains revenue recognition simply and knows the firm’s service lines beats one who recites definitions but can’t say why they applied. Clarity over cramming, every time.
