How to Use the ACCA Exemptions Calculator: Step by Step for CA and B.Com Students

“How many ACCA papers will I be exempt from?” is the first question every CA and B.Com student asks us. ACCA answers it with a free online tool, the Exemptions Calculator. This guide shows you how to use it, how to read the result, and the mistakes that make students think they have more (or fewer) exemptions than they really do.

What the ACCA Exemptions Calculator Does

ACCA has 13 papers. If you have already studied similar subjects at a recognised university or professional body, ACCA lets you skip some of them. The calculator matches your qualification against ACCA’s accreditation list and shows which papers you can skip.

  • Exemptions are only available at the Applied Knowledge and Applied Skills levels.
  • The maximum is 9 exemptions. Nobody is exempt from the Strategic Professional papers (SBL, SBR and options).
  • The result is for information only. Nothing is registered until you apply for exemptions with ACCA and upload your documents.

Step-by-Step: Using the Calculator

  1. Open the calculator. Go to accaglobal.com and search for “Exemptions calculator”, or open the Exemptions page under the ACCA Qualification section.
  2. Choose your qualification type. Pick “Degree” for B.Com, or “Professional qualification” if you are checking CA.
  3. Select your country: India.
  4. Select your institution. For B.Com, choose your university (for example, University of Rajasthan). For CA, choose the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India. If your university is not listed, try older or alternative names.
  5. Select your course or level. For CA, choose the level you have actually passed (Intermediate or Final).
  6. Read the result. The calculator lists each exempt paper by level. Write them down or take a screenshot.

Five Mistakes Students Make With the Calculator

  1. Selecting a level you have not passed. If you cleared only one CA Inter group, do not select the full Intermediate level. Your exemptions depend on what you have completed.
  2. Choosing the wrong university name. Many Indian universities appear under older names. If you pick the wrong one, the result will be wrong.
  3. Treating a degree in progress as complete. If your B.Com is still running, ACCA may give conditional exemptions, which become final only when you submit proof that you have completed it.
  4. Thinking exemptions are free. Each exempt paper carries an exemption fee (see below).
  5. Assuming the screenshot is enough. ACCA confirms exemptions only after you apply and it checks your documents.

How to Claim Your Exemptions

  1. Register with ACCA on accaglobal.com.
  2. Upload your marksheets and degree or CA certificates when asked.
  3. Wait for ACCA to assess them. Exemptions for universities that are not on ACCA’s list can take several weeks.
  4. Accept your exemptions and pay the exemption fees in myACCA.
  5. Book your first exam only after your exemptions are confirmed, so you do not sit a paper you could have skipped.

What Changes in 2027

ACCA is redesigning its qualification from 2027. According to ACCA’s official FAQ, exemptions against the current qualification transfer automatically in July 2027, exemptions for the new structure will appear on the calculator from July 2027, and up to nine exam exemptions remain available. The new Digital Tech and Innovation module has no exemptions. If you already qualify for exemptions, it makes sense to claim them now and start with the March 2027 session.
