After CA Foundation, What Next? 5 Options If You Do Not Clear in September 2026
The CA Foundation September 2026 result is expected around the end of October or the first week of November 2026. ICAI had not announced the exact date when this post was written; last year’s September result came out on 3 November 2025. If you are waiting nervously, this guide is for you and your parents. It is not about giving up on CA. It is about knowing every option before the result comes, so that whatever it says, you do not lose a year.

Option 1: Re-attempt CA Foundation in January 2027
Best for: students who missed by a few marks and still want CA.
The January exams start just 8 weeks after the expected result. That is enough time if you cleared most papers comfortably and only one or two pulled you down. Look at your paper-wise marks, not the overall word “fail”. If one paper was far below the rest, that paper decides your plan.
Fill the exam form between 3 and 16 November 2026 to avoid the late fee.
Option 2: Start ACCA Directly After 12th
Best for: students who want a global accounting qualification without another Foundation attempt.
ACCA is a UK qualification recognised in more than 180 countries. It has 13 exams across three levels, and there is no Foundation-style entrance exam before you start. Students who meet ACCA’s 12th-class marks requirement can register directly and begin with Business and Technology (BT), Management Accounting (MA) and Financial Accounting (FA). These three are on-demand computer-based exams, so you can book them on almost any date instead of waiting for a fixed session.
The accounting, law and economics you studied for CA Foundation is not wasted. A lot of it overlaps with FA, BT and MA, which is why CA Foundation students often find ACCA’s first level comfortable.

Option 3: B.Com + ACCA Together
Best for: students who want a degree and a professional qualification at the same time.
Many students join a regular B.Com and study ACCA papers alongside it. By the time you graduate, you can have a large part of ACCA done, and some colleges run B.Com programmes with ACCA built in. Option 4: US CMA During or After Graduation
Best for: students interested in management accounting, costing and corporate finance roles.
The US CMA (Certified Management Accountant) from IMA has only two parts. You can usually take the exams while you are still in college, and you complete the certification once you have a bachelor’s degree and the required work experience. It pairs well with a B.Com. Option 5: Graduate First, Then Return to CA Through Direct Entry
Best for: students who are sure they want CA but need a break from the Foundation exam.
ICAI allows eligible graduates to join CA Intermediate directly without CA Foundation, subject to its marks criteria. So completing your degree does not close the CA door. Check the current direct-entry rules on icai.org before you plan around it.
